Night Rating

The Night Rating is done as part of the Commercial Pilot Licence course but can also be done as a stand-alone rating for any Helicopter Pilot with a PPL. The advantage of doing a night rating is that it allows a pilot to legally fly at night and will improve the pilots all round situational awareness, which enhances safety.

Course Requirements

The Night Rating consists of 10 hours instrument instruction as well as 5 hours of actual night flying. The night flying includes a night cross-country of not less than 75nmxfrom base, during which 2 away landings are made and a Night Rating Skills test.  All of these hours are dual and you will be required to pass an online CAA examination prior to the Night Rating skill test.

Privileges

This rating allows you to fly as Pilot in Command at night but not under instrument conditions i.e not in clouds or bad weather.
